Ministry sees child-sponsorships soar on Compassion Sunday

By March 26, 2008

USA (MNN) — The statistics on what can happen around the world in a single day are startling.  In just a day, 16,000 children die, 1,500 children are infected with HIV, and almost 5,000 die from diseases caused by unclean drinking water.

You and your church can solve this problem without spending a dime. Compassion International this year has named April 13 the official Compassion Sunday. The event is meant to inform members about the impact that child sponsorships make and help them get signed up to be
sponsors. Any church can organize the event, and Compassion will even help. They will provide, free of charge, all the materials that are needed.

If you can't hold the event on the 13th, any other day that works for your church is great, too.

Last year, Compassion Sunday resulted in 21,000 new child sponsorships. Sponsorships provide
children with the opportunity to have health care, to get an education, and most importantly, become involved in a Christian church. Sponsors and children exchange letters, photos and prayers, and begin to build a friendship.

Compassion wants to help any church who will host Compassion Sunday with their congregation. Click here for a three-step plan that makes organizing this event simple.
