Pakistan’s president orders review of blasphemy law.

Pakistan (MNN)–Human rights activists, and many religious minorities have welcomed President General Pervez Musharraf’s call for open discussions on and a review of the blasphemy law.

The Pakistan Christian National Party supports the move, citing many instances where Christians were targeted unfairly under the law, or where the law was used to settle personal scores.

The Council further says there is not a single blasphemy case that has been proven in the higher courts. So far, only the lower courts had convicted because of fundamentalist pressure. Moreover, even though the high courts had acquitted all those charged under Section 295-C, after acquittal they could not survive in Pakistan.

Voice of the Martyrs Canada is asking people to pray for the outcome in this review. They’re urging Christians to remember those involved in outreach in Pakistan, especially in light of recent threats of violence and the kidnappings of several church leaders. Pray that Christians in Pakistan will have a bold testimony to those around them.
