Death toll rises to nearly 170 in Kenya flooding

Kenya (MNN) — A rising death toll shows this past monsoon season in Kenya has been anything but normal. Flash floods killed 66 Kenyans on Monday. This brings the flooding death toll to nearly 170 since March. Around 185,000 people have been displaced. Nehemiah with FMI says the ministry is in touch with local church partners. While the Church in Kenya grapples with flood devastation alongside their neighbors, they’re still living out the Gospel. Pray Kenyans find hope in Jesus.

Open Bible Stories — first steps for new Bible translation teams

International (MNN) —  At first glance, it might look like an ordinary children’s Bible to you. But Open Bible Stories from unfoldingWord is much more. This powerful, evangelistic tool is helping new believers around the world become Bible translators for their own people. Dane Skelton with unfoldingWord: “Open Bible Stories is 50 carefully chosen Bible stories from creation to Revelation. They’re theologically accurate, but they’re not Scripture, and that reduces the anxiety for many first-time translators, especially Muslims, about working directly with the Word of God.” Open Bible Stories serves as a translation primer. By translating it into their heart language, believers learn tools, techniques, and concepts behind Bible translation. They also get strong overview of the Old and New Testaments. unfoldingWord sees believers across cultures and contexts respond in two ways to this process. “Number one, they are fascinated by the Old Testament history. They start to understand the whole scope of what God has done. And then they are deeply, deeply moved by the fact that it’s like, ‘God wants to speak my language?’” Learn how you can invest your prayers and your resources into Bible translators around the globe. We’ll connect you in the FULL STORY.
