7 billion souls up the ante

USA (MNN) — With the birth of the 7 billionth soul on the planet last month, the stakes have only increased for the Great Commission according to Ron Hutchcraft, founder of Ron Hutchcraft Ministries (RHM).

Hutchcraft says, “There were an estimated 200 million people [in Jesus’ day]. Today that’s the population of Pakistan. One country! So now with 7 billion people, the responsibility in our generation to be laser focused in accelerating the spread of the Gospel is greater than it’s probably been on any generation.”

This responsibility is widely known as the Great Commission given by Christ to his followers to go and make disciples of all nations.
Now with a larger audience to be reached than ever before, the church must look at creative ways to cast out further lines with the Gospel message.

Hutchcraft says of RHM, “We have looked at every possible platform there is to get the Gospel out and said, ‘How can we Gospelize…through Facebook? How can we Gospelize through all the social networks, through Twitter?’”

Besides using the internet, another critical aspect to look at is how much Christians are budgeting in for missions. Sadly, time has seen a decline in the percentage of budgets used for supporting mission work. A missionary may take up to three years just to raise support before even setting foot on the mission field.

“Everyday 158 thousand human beings go into eternity ready or not,” states Hutchcraft. “So with that kind of urgency, you look at all of your spending…Like Paul said, ‘That by all possible means, I might save some.’”

Hutchcraft points out that the Greek word “dunamis” is used in the New Testament to describe the power of the Holy Spirit. It is also where we get our English word for “dynamite.”

“The Gospel is God’s dynamite!” says Hutchcraft. “It should mobilize and motivate us to go, ‘We’ve got to take our game up a lot of notches…We ought to be making a big deal of missions in our church.’”

Pray that the Lord might give you a heart for a piece of the world to make a greater impact for his name. These are times when the Gospel is needed more than ever.
