Bikes aid church planters in Ethiopia.

By September 26, 2006

Ethiopia (MNN)–A City Team Ministries’ partner in Ethiopia recently delivered bicycles for their church planters.

Missionaries Dave and Lynn Hunt relate the impact of the gift through one man’s reaction. One church planter explained that before he received the bicycle, he would often walk 15 kilometers each way to visit a particular village where he was in the process of starting new church. With tears rolling down his face, he expressed gratitude for providing him a way to quickly make this trip.

More than a tool for efficiency, there is another lesser known boon for a machine like a bicycle. They will also be used as a means of providing income for the church planter’s ministry as they transport “people” and goods to remote villages.

This transportation earns some income but even more importantly gives the church planter a “reason” for being in the community so that through relationships that will be established a church can be started.

As the Hunt’s focus in 2007 is on the development of lay church planters, they know that the job of saturating the area with churches will only happen if the majority of these churches are planted by lay people.

Pray that God continues to use these bicycles to increase the efficiency of many church planters. If you want to help, click here.
