Buckner Orphan Care celebrates 10th anniversary in Russia

Russia (MNN) — Buckner Orphan Care International is celebrating a milestone in ministry. The children’s ministry that specializes in outreach to children celebrated its 10th anniversary of their ministry in Russia. Buckner took a team of more than 50 people, including Moody Broadcasting Network listeners, to the city of St. Petersburg.

Buckner’s Tiffany Taylor says, “It’s appropriate to be here in St. Petersburg because that’s the place where everything started for Buckner. It’s just so exciting to see the changes we’ve made in the orphanages, over the last ten years, when we first started working in these orphanages. There [were] literally orphanages that couldn’t feed their children.”

Buckner has been helping these orphanages and in doing so, relationships have been developed that allow them to share the Gospel. “We have a very developed ministry program to where the children when we come in they’re just wanting to know so much more about the Bible. They’ve heard about Bibles and (some) have accepted Jesus in their hearts and they want to learn more. Isn’t that exciting to see just (what) 10 years can make.”

Buckner assists in adoptions, foster care and humanitarian assistance in dozens of orphanages in Russia through programs like their Shoes for Orphan Souls initiative. Taylor says Buckner’s ministry provides something very important. “The thing they have in their eyes now is hope, hope that someone loves them and someone cares about them.”

Pray that Russia won’t curtail adoptions. Pray also that more Christians in Russia will get involved in helping the orphans in their nation because many of them are searching.
