Buckner to celebrate 10 years in Russia

By April 14, 2005

Russia (MNN) — Buckner Orphan Care International has been helping connect children with families all over the world for years. Buckner’s been doing that in eight countries. This year they’re celebrating 10 years of work in Russia.

Buckner is doing something special to celebrate, says Amy Norton. “The November Shoe trip will actually be a joint 10 year anniversary trip and shoe trip together in St. Petersburg with an opportunity to really do some wonderful ministry with the kids.”

Norton is talking about their Shoes For Orphan Souls program. The program collects brand new shoes for orphans. Short term mission volunteers distribute them in orphanages, where the local church helps them with Vacation Bible School, crafts and games.

This trip will serve a dual purpose. It will also service as a celebration of relationships. “Some of the children,” says Norton, “we’ve actually watched grow up there over these 10 years and orphanage directors we’ve been working (with) for this period of time and government officials to really also honor them, honor the lives that they’ve changed through our partnership together.”

Buckner needs your help. They need people to be a part of the trip. Application deadline is April 20th. Go back to the MNN homepage and scroll to the bottom to see/sign up for our Mission Trip in Focus or click the highlighted link for contact information.
