Christians reach out to the military on Memorial Day

By May 27, 2013

USA (MNN) — Today, the United States celebrates Memorial Day. It's a day to honor soldiers who, as Abraham Lincoln said, "gave the last full measure of devotion." In the history of the United States, 1.3 million people have given their lives in combat for their country. 1.5 million people have been injured. 38,000 are still missing. While there are parades and cemetery ceremonies across the nation, Christians understand that many of today's soldiers need to know the truth.

Biblica is just one organization that has been reaching out to those in the miliatry for over 100 years by providing God's Word.

Biblica Director of Military Ministry Mark Rader says he works with all branches of the military service, "Primarily working with military chaplains to get Scripture into the hands of our men and women in uniform, and their families. That's just an incredible privilege."

Rader says one of the resources is The Greatest Warrior New Testament. "It was designed to help service members heal from PTSD [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder] and from combat trauma. [It] has testimonies in it from service members that have experienced that sort of thing, and also their wives."

The ministry also offers a complete Bible. Rader says thye have special covers for each branch of the service. "Camouflage for the Army. We have blue covered Bibles for the Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. We also have a Bible designed specifically to help spouses and families: Finding Hope Beyond the Battle."

Today, Biblica is raising money for three specific projects. One is at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. "We have the opportunity to provide 16,000 digi-camouflage Bibles to those new Army basic trainees over the next several months. The second opportunity is at the Great Lakes Naval training center: 3,000. Then, the third opportunity is The Greatest Warrior New Testament: 20,000," says Rader.

Biblical is raising more than $100,000 for those projects, and you can help. For $100, you can provide 20 complete military Bibles, or 40 Greatest Warrior Military New Testaments.

Pray that God will encourage many people to give to this project.
