International (MNN)–The energy built at InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s Urbana 06 is seeing spin-off.
Small contingents attending the December convention are planning their own student missions conventions outside the U-S.
According to Lindsay Brown, the General Secretary of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, “I have no doubt that God is raising up a whole phalanx of missions groups through these [other] ‘Urbanas’.”
A case in point, a recent student missions convention held in Kenya attracted 2,500 delegates from 16 East African countries. From there, momentum began building for a greater opportunity.
Between now and 2009, student missions conventions are being planned for India, Russia, Rwanda, Kenya, Bolivia and Jamaica.
For example, in the works now, for September 2006, a conference in India is expected to attract Christian students from across South Asia. Russia’s conference will be for students in Eurasia, and Rwanda’s will be the first such conference in French-speaking Africa.
As one staffer put it, spin-off events like these represent a growing missionary vision across the world.
