Switzerland (MNN) – As the abortion rate in Switzerland continues to rise, LIFE International joins with a local partner to provide training.
The most recent reports from 2024 show the abortion rate in Switzerland to be 7.3 abortions per 1000 women aged 15-44. This means a record high of 12,434 abortions that year. Switzerland also recently passed a landmark measure requiring health insurers to cover the full cost of abortions starting in 2027.
Training the Church in Switzerland
Despite this news, Luke Salik with LIFE International says there is passion for the pro-life movement in Switzerland. One of their hub leaders is fighting for every life in his country. “He’s doing a lot of work really trying to unite kind of a fractured pro-life movement in a lot of ways – a lot of different organizations that struggle to trust each other. He’s done awesome work and really achieving some of that unity, a lot of learning along the way in that. We worked with him to get this training scheduled. So, three of us went out to lead the prayer initiative before the training happened in late March.”

This training sought to bring people and churches together under the goal of protecting life. LIFE International provided training specific to the context and culture of Switzerland to help the church defend the defenseless.
However, this training is just the start. Salik asks for prayer that God would unite the church in Switzerland on the issue of abortion. He also asks for prayer for their team. “Pray for the LIFE International team in Switzerland, that they would continue to grow in their ability to hold these trainings and spread this message themselves, and that they would see this movement grow. They’re so on fire for this. So pray that fire would continue, that they would endure, not grow weary of doing good.”
Equipping the Saints for Life-Giving Ministry
The battle for life and truth is not a simple one. There is a lot of hurt and pain in this space and many people who are affected. LIFE International offers support as well as a variety of resources in the pro-life space. Salik says, “In the end, our goal is that in all these areas of the world there is a self-sustaining movement for life with this kind of DNA moving through the leaders in that context… It’s really cool to see that happening in Switzerland, and we just hope to fuel that fire, however we can.”
