Floods and landslides affect tens of thousands of families

By January 7, 2011

Philippines (MNN) — Flooding and landslides have affected tens of thousands of families in the Philippines, and the numbers are rising. Reports agree that over 400,000 people have been affected thus far.

Among the victims are over 100 children assisted by Compassion International. Eight Compassion-assisted child development centers have been affected.

Four centers — PH-275, PH-276, PH-277 and PH-278 — have been affected in Narra, Palawan. Nearly 40 children from PH-276 have been affected. Two of them have lost their homes completely.

Four more centers — PH-622, PH627, PH-630 and PH-649 — in Agusan del Sur have been affected also. There is no power, and almost the entire province is flooded. At least 80 children have been affected from these centers.

The urgent needs at this point include food and clothing.

Pray for protection of Compassion families and staff. Pray for God's provision for these families and children, who were not materially well off to begin with and may now have lost much. Pray also that these children would be a light to those around them in the midst of suffering, and that they would apply what they've learned about Christ and God's love in their interaction with others.
