Funding needed for child outreach in India

India (MNN) — As violence from anti-Christian groups continue to plague the nation of India, that’s not stopping believers from reaching out to children. Mission India of Grand Rapids, Michigan is involved in training for this kind of outreach. But, they’re not able to keep up with the demand.

Mission India’s John DeVries says they work with more than 750 local mission groups and organizations. “They asked us to train 300,000 of their people in children’s Bible clubs and we were able to reach about 72,000 of that. And, there were 38.5 million kids in the children’s Bible clubs.”

The obvious problem is the lack of funding, says DeVries. “If we had the funding to do all 300,000, these 750 India missions could reach 10-percent of India’s youth in the next five years. It’s an astronomical goal.”

What’s great is the cost is small when you consider the impact. “The cost is only a dollar per child that provides complete teacher training and a whole Scripture package for the child for a two week period. And, most of the time that is followed up with an after school club, or the child goes into a Sunday school, or a weekly club after that.”
