USA (MNN) – Every year, millions of Americans gather with friends and family to celebrate and give thanks for the many blessings they have received.

Then the next day, or even later that day, they stand in line for hours and even shove people out of their way to receive an item they think will fulfill their personal desires.

This is a said dichotomy in our country. But thankfully, there are some who still realize the importance of sacrificing personal satisfaction for the benefit of others benefit.

December first was a special occasion known as “#GivingTuesday.” Started in 2012, #GivingTuesday is a 24-hour online campaign encouraging people to give back through their time, energy, and money.

It was quite a success. The campaign raised approximately $116.7 million through 698,961 donors and received 1.3 million social media mentions. According to USA Today, it has increased online giving by 470%.

One organization that especially benefited from the campaign was Global Aid Network. The international Christian humanitarian organization received more than $1,835, which was then matched by another donor. The money will be used to help meet physical needs and show Christ’s compassion to suffering and vulnerable people around the world.

Interested in how you can make a donation yourself? Even if you missed #GivingTuesday, your gift can still leave a powerful impact. A GAiN USA partner will double every gift given before December 31st. Click here to find specific ways to give.

If donating financially isn’t an option, you can always give your time. Whether through mission trips or community outreach events, there are multiple ways you can impact people’s lives.

Finally, don’t underestimate the power of prayer. Pray that this organization would best know how to use the donations. Pray also that relief efforts would open doors for the Gospel. You can sign up for GAiN USA’s Frontline Prayer updates by clicking here.
