Isaac, an Open Doors Nigerian researcher, is reporting that Boko Haram – also known as the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) — is now confronting the army in an attempt to take back Gulak.

The fighting has sent people fleeing into nearby hills.

“There was pandemonium; people scampered for their lives; many slept in bushes. They killed one soldier during the fierce battle,” a former Council chairman told Premium Times, a Nigerian news source.

However, many elderly people are still trapped inside the Christian-dominated town, too weak to flee. Heavy gun battles were reported on Sunday and Monday, but local vigilantes stopped the terrorists from taking Gulak a second time.

Last August, Gulak’s residents faced “horrible brutality” at the hands of Boko Haram, Open Doors reports. The terrorists remained in control until March 2015, when government forces drove them out.

Please join Open Doors USA in prayer for the following:

  • Pray that Nigeria’s army will be able to protect Gulak and its people from Boko Haram advances.
  • Ask the Lord to prevent bloodshed.
  • Pray that through Boko Haram terror, those who do not know Christ will be drawn to His Truth and will accept His offer of salvation.
