Help the neglected: Give them a voice

By July 5, 2011

International (MNN) — Christ calls us as Christians to be a voice to the voiceless. James 1:27 says, "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." Buckner International invites you to join with them in this calling.

Buckner International recently started a new program called Voice Partners. With this new program, you can become a partner with their ministry and support them both financially and in prayer. All of their partners will have the exciting opportunity to know that their support is being used to minister to the hurting.

The name Voice Partners was chosen because anyone who partners with them would help them in giving just that to the people they serve: a voice. Many in impoverished or abusive situations feel neglected and alone. They often feel like there is no one out there who hears them or cares for them…they feel voiceless. But the God of all who suffer hears them, and Buckner International seeks to go out and show them that.

On top of knowing that they are helping a ministry evangelize in the name of Christ, Buckner's Voice Partners will receive extra updates. In this, partners will be able to see firsthand what an impact their prayers and support are having and even hear stories from this ministry.

The mission of Buckner is to reach out to orphans, vulnerable children, families, and senior adults. With a strong history of ministering to the abused and neglected, they have been evangelizing in the name of Christ since 1879.

Who wouldn't be touched by the story of Paola, a girl who was sexually abused by her stepfather until she was 12 and eventually gave birth to his child? Or Robin, a single, uneducated mother in Texas struggling to raise three boys? What about Jerrick, a young man raised in a dangerous, crime-infested neighborhood with no hope for a better life?

Buckner International helped all of these and more to get out of their circumstances through education, housing, and communicating the love of God. They will continue to do so, but they can't do it alone.

Buckner's Web site identifies the seven greatest needs for their ministry and shows where exactly donations would be going. Currently, the key areas of needed support are foster care, family ministries, international ministries, adoption, community programs, and humanitarian aid.

Buckner is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, and they promise that any contributions made to their organization go directly to the needy they serve. If you are interested in becoming a Voice Partner, you can go to their Web site at www.buckner.org/give/voice .

Please pray for the abused and suffering around the world, that they may come to know the love of the Father. Pray also for Buckner's ministry as they go out in search of the neglected and become the healing hands of Christ.
