India trip winner announced

USA (MNN) — India is a hot place. But in the winter, it's cold. Statistics tell us that anywhere between 6,000 and 10,000 people die every winter because of exposure, especially in the northern areas of the country. That's why Global Action is distributing blankets to those in need–and doing so through the local church.

This year, Global Action is sending four teams to India to hand out badly-needed blankets.

During the month of May, Global Action decided to offer a Mission Network News friend an opportunity to go on one of these trips. We gathered hundreds of names and testimonies of people who felt God's call to go minister to those in need. The contest came to a conclusion June 1 when we drew the name of Heather Stennet from Michigan.

In her testimony, Stennet writes, "For about 2 1/2 months now, the country of India has been on my heart. I had spent some time praying about what I could do for the Lord as a young single lady, and during that time, India kept coming up: six times in a two-week period, to be exact."

According to Stennet, she didn't take this lightly. "I took time to fast about the possibility of going — asking God if this was only my desire, or if He was really leading me there."

When Mission Network News called to tell her about winning the drawing, she said, "I'm kind of shaking." Stennet told us she had been wanting to go to India to visit her mentor's sister. However, "Working through all of the things, I wasn't going to be able to afford it. I had no clue how I was going to come up with the money." Through tears, she says, "I think that just adds to the fact that it's totally God."

Stennet will be traveling to India this fall to help distribute blankets to those in need, and sharing Christ in the process.
