Joni and Friends Celebrate New Center

By April 26, 2007

USA (MNN) — After two and a half years of construction, the Joni and Friends International Disability Center is completed and now in use in Agoura Hills, California.

Construction began on the 33,700-square-foot building in December of 2004. One of the features of the building is an extraordinary prayer chapel. It is built in a reflecting pool with a wrap-around glass-lined ramp leading to the second floor.

The institute will do many things besides house current programs. "It will also house the Christian Institute on Disability and a Policy Center. [This] will publish a biblical worldview of current issues affecting the dignity and value of every life–issues such as stem cell research, euthanasia, and other issues that affect people with disabilities," said President Doug Mazza.

Joni Eareckson Tada's daily radio program can now be recorded in the state-of-the-art recording studio housed in the new building. More than 1,200 stations air "Joni and Friends," now in its 25th year.

By the end of 2007, Joni and Friends plans to create a television broadcast that will be aired weekly.
