USA (MNN) — World Hunger Fund is getting a facelift this month. National partners of WHF are launching a new initiative during the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting June 10-11.

Baptist Global Response is particularly excited about the change which includes a new name, Global Hunger Relief. While the purpose of Global Hunger Relief has identical goals and operation as its predecessor, partners hope to see a new generation become passionate about hunger relief efforts.

Baptist Global Response reports that more than one billion people around the world are hungry on a regular basis, and 24,000 people die because of conditions related to lack of basic nutrition.

WHF was the Southern Baptists’ response to the Ethiopian famine in the mid-1980s. Before the decade was out, over $8.5 million was being given annually to fight hunger worldwide. In 2010, donations had dwindled. Through the promotion of World Hunger Sunday held each October, funds have since increased.

WHF operates on an 80-20 distribution to International and North American causes, respectively, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to hunger relief and disaster projects. The vision to change people and communities long-term by impacting them with the love of Christ in word and deed is the exact same today.

With about 30 years of existence, it is time for WHF–soon to be Global Hunger Relief–to lift up the needs of the world to the next generation.

If this is your first time hearing about World Hunger Fund or Global Hunger Relief, you can find more details here.

The most important part of Global Hunger Relief is that it is demonstrating the love of Christ, as well as providing opportunity to share the Gospel by distributing food and other needs to people in need. If you want to help, click here.

Pray that God would continue to work through BGR and the other national partners as a unit, blessing them with focus and support.
