Newsboys & Kutless to provide water to the poor

By February 7, 2011

USA (MNN) — One billion people around the world don’t have access to clean safe drinking water. While you think most of the water issues are in Africa, the situation is also serious on Hispaniola–home to Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

But music will help put at least a dent in the problem for one community.

Newsboys and Kutless are joining together for the “Born Again Experience” Tour presented by Compassion International.

Compassion’s Kathy Redmond says the 26-city tour kicks off the first week in April and will have an impact on kids. “50,000 dollars of the profits from that tour will go to a water purification system in the Dominican Republic in Santa Domingo.”

This is more than just a little personal filtration device: this is a community system.

Redmond says this water system will only attract more people. “The community goes to the church for its water. The community goes to the church for a number of things. The child development center, located in the church, is the center of the community where people can go for really anything.”

Compassion works through the local church to help beneficiaries of their programs and to share the Gospel.
