Orphans need you during this season

USA (MNN) — How many times have you heard someone say, "I just want to do something for someone this Christmas — someone who really needs it." This year Buckner International is giving you a chance to make a difference in the life of someone who really needs it — the life of an orphaned child.

With Christmas just a few weeks away, Buckner International's Steve Massey says many of us may "have a long list [of people] to shop for, possibly trying to buy something for someone who has everything. Or, maybe friends and family are trying to reduce clutter, maybe give something a little more meaningful. That's where the Buckner International Gift catalog presents that opportunity."

Buckner is offering you a chance to get involved with gifts as small at $10, or as large as $100. "You can do a $10 gift that can help feed a family. A $25 gift can buy a pair of shoes for an orphan, or a $75 gift can send a foster care child to summer camp," says Massey.

While these are things all children in the program need, Massey says, "What we do depends on the generosity of others. We're able to serve through the generosity of individuals, foundations, and churches."

If Christians like you don't get involved, some children would go without.

While providing a gift is important at Christmas time, you may actually want "to go and work in orphanages, provide vacation Bible school, share the Gospel with children, and letting them know that somebody cares about them."

The gift catalog is called, "Give Joy to the World." You can find it here.

Providing these gifts is important, says Massey, but "everything that we do has a foundation of faith with it. With that, there's always numerous opportunities to share the Gospel."
