Mozambique (MNN) — Recent flooding isn’t the only thing causing trouble in Mozambique. According to Audio Scripture Ministries (ASM), there continues to be a high level of political tension.

There have been many threats to “destabilize” the country because the opposition party feels October’s elections were rigged, ASM reports. ASM’s work in Mozambique has been growing by leaps and bounds, but political unrest could put everything at risk.

Please pray for calm, and pray that a peaceful solution can be found.

ASM Mozambique

ASM began working in Mozambique nearly a decade ago, partnering with national believers to build their first recording studio near Xai Xai. ASM provided much of the initial technological training, as well as discipleship materials.

“Our goal in Mozambique is to end up with a completely nationally-directed audio Scripture ministry,” stated ASM’s former Executive Director Tom Dudenhofer in 2005.

Today, ASM has far-surpassed their goal. Along with updating their headquarters in Xai Xai in August 2014, ASM’s national ministry partners are expanding to a second location in central Mozambique.

This is what makes your prayers crucial.

Ongoing political instability and armed conflict slowed ministry work for a while, but peace and order were somewhat restored following presidential elections in October 2014. This allowed ASM’s partners to re-start work on the expansion project in central Mozambique.

In December, national workers “broke ground” on a multipurpose recording studio/distribution center and pediatric hospice/palliative care facility. They hope to reach completion by April 2015, but that finish line is dependent on factors like funding and political stability.

Pray for calm in Mozambique. Praise God for progress made on the new studio, and pray for cooperative weather and safety so the work can continue. Pray also for the safe arrival of audio Bibles shipped to Mozambique earlier this month.
