Recovery and aftermath in Nepal

Nepal (MNN) — God’s timing is remarkable, and sometimes we don’t realize it until later.

Audio Scripture Ministries started work in Nepal about a year and a half ago with small, infrequent Audio Bible distributions. Then, the decision was made this spring to have their largest distribution yet.

ASM’s India-Asia Director, JP Sundararajan, says, “All along, we’ve been sending a few units and numbers like tens and fifties. And, finally, they sent about 200 Bibles, and 150 of those Bibles were hand-carried into three different areas of Nepal, where we did our biggest distribution in the country.”

“The timing of how it all worked out was beautifully set up by God because we were able to do our work before the earthquake,” he adds.

Perfect Timing

National Director in India, James Sundararajan, and National Director in Nepal, Hari, teamed up to distribute these Bibles in remote areas. “They said the response was overwhelming, to say the least. People had been waiting for so long,” says Sundararajan.

Since many are illiterate, and electricity is inconsistent in most parts of the country, these solar-powered Audio Bibles represented a source that could give them the Life of Christ without fail.

“They had amazing testimony after testimony of people talking about how much they appreciated this,” explains Sundararajan. By the end of the distribution, each Audio Bible was spoken for.

What’s Next?

Hari was in Kathmandu when the tragedy hit. Agonizing hours passed before the ministry got word that he and his family were safe.

Now, while aftershocks still shake buildings and homes, thousands have taken to the streets, living in tents or out in the open with limited water, food, and necessary supplies. Sundararajan says, “To say that the earthquake was bad is fine. But, I think the recovery and aftermath continues to be just as tragic.”

The death toll has passed 8,000, and the Prime Minister says it’s likely that more than 10,000 have died. Each day, families and friends are finding bodies of their loved ones. With nowhere to go and nothing to live on, people are devastated and traumatized.

But this is when the goodness of God’s Word is imperative.

Though ASM just had their biggest Audio Bible distribution in the country, they want to distribute 1,000 more. “As people huddle around trying to find answers, trying to find spiritual comfort, we’re aware that our audio Bibles will be powerfully used in those situations.”

They can’t do this without your prayer and support. Help restore hope to suffering families.

Pray For:
• The 8,000,000 who have been affected by the loss of family, friends, and belongings.
• Many to find hope in Christ.
• God’s Word to provide hope and comfort for the survivors.

Our hearts are broken more each day when we hear the number of perished souls increase. God protect those who have lost loved ones & all of their belongings. Dear Father, please supply all of their needs, please supply them with Your word to give them hope in this disastrous situation. Please bring many into Your kingdom through this sad & difficult time for the people of Nepal. Especially give the Christians there an open door to share the gospel with hurting & broken people. Please heavenly Father, let them feel your arms around them, let them know & understand of the giving of Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice for their & our sins. In the Name of our Holy & All-Powerful God we pray, Amen
