Athens (MNN) – Running a marathon is a great feat. But what if, while running 26.2 miles, you were also a part of a ministry and viewing an ancient city?

Evangelical Free Church Mission is promoting an event that accomplishes just that. ReachGlobal Athens City Team is asking for new volunteers to join their team for 2014.

EFCA, a ministry that has nearly 550 missionaries in over 80 countries, desires to share the Gospel with any people that they encounter. This includes encouragement for Christians that have an opportunity to reach the lost with the Good News. Not only does EFCA seek to meet the physical and material needs of people, but their spiritual needs as well. One way they do this is by planting churches around the world, and ministering to those new churches, their people, and their pastors.

Exciting opportunities are expected for the 32nd original Athens Marathon. It will take place on November 9, 2014. That gives team members over a year to train. This year’s race, the 31st, is already expecting 16,000 participants.

While in Athens, the ReachGlobal group will visit local church plants and meet Christians who are educators of the next generation of Greek ministry leaders.

The trip cost will be around $1,500 not including airfare. For more information on how to sign up, click here.

If running 26.2 miles is not your cup of tea, you can still be involved. Pray that God will provide opportunities for the ReachGlobal team to minister to the Church plants in Athens as well as people who have never heard the Gospel. Pray that participants will be able to raise the necessary money. Pray for the teams and churches safety. EFCA has many other opportunities to get involved in as well. Click here for information.
