Shoes and souls need prayer

By March 6, 2009

USA (MNN) — Putting new shoes on the feet of children who have never owned a pair of their own shoes before is a thrilling experience. That's what will happen this year as Buckner International continues its Shoes for Orphan Souls ministry to orphaned and poor children around the world.

Through their program, Buckner has distributed more than 1.6 million pairs of new shoes to at-risk children in the United States and to orphans in 55 countries around the world. While their program has made a difference in many lives, there are still millions of children who need to be reached — not just with shoes, but with the Gospel.

Buckner is asking you to pray for shoe drives that will begin this month in the following states: Texas, Arkansas, Washington, North Carolina, Alabama, Colorado, Illinois, West Virginia, Minnesota, Florida, California, New York, Ohio, Road Island and Virginia.

Collecting shoes is of first importance, but funding is also needed to help get the shoes to their distribution points. You can help with a donation of a pair shoes, socks and shoelaces, as well as money to help deliver them.

As these shoes are delivered, it's done through the help of local Christians who are able to share the Gospel with these kids.
