(Indonesia)–Headlining today’s news, the Dayak/Madurese (dye-ahk mah-du-reez) conflict in Indonesia continues to be a concern for missionaries in that region. New Tribes Mission’s Guy Sier says the outbreak of violence is pushing the Dayak back to their cultural roots. “When conflicts arise, we see a reversion back to the old ways – to cannibalism and the head hunting. And, it sobers us a bit to realize that these are the people we work with and that look normal to us every day.” Sier is asking Christians to pray for their evangelistic work among the Dayak. “None of our missionaries are working where the violence is taking place. We do work with Dayaks in the western part of the Island, and we’re watching very closely to if this violence against the Madurese people is going to spread across the Island into the areas that would directly effect our mission works.”
