Story number 1 for 23 Jul 2001

By July 23, 2001

(Nepal)–Our newscast begins in Nepal, where the country’s prime minister resigned late last week. The latest move reveals an unsteady government faced by a Maoist insurgency, and recriminations over a massacre that wiped out much of the royal family. International Needs Network’s Dave Culross gives us more insight. “There’s a lot of distrust among the people right now because they wonder if the story that’s been given to them is really the true story. As a result of this, they are kind of ignoring the Christian community right now. In a way, that’s good news because the Christians are now able to proceed with their evangelistic work at the local level without having the kind of harassment that had been common.” Culross says the believers in the area are asking for prayer. “The problem there has been the resurgence of persecution of Christians at the local level. International Needs is actively involved in a network of evangelistic work and planting of churches out in the districts. Pray that in the middle of this political turmoil, that God’s had would be obvious.”
