(Indonesia)–Next, there are repercussions emanating from the war in Iraq. Muslim radicals in Indonesia are joining an international calling for American blood as security forces brace for a backlash in the world’s largest Muslim country in response.
Voice of the Martyrs’ Todd Nettleton says there’s good reason for concern. “An attack by America is an attack by Christians, and then you get into the Crusade and the psyche of that part of the world, and so, these kind of things tend to incite violence, they tend to incite at least attempts at revenge, so I think we do need to be aware, and we do need to be cautious.” Nettleton predicts difficulty for existing ministries, but is cautiously optimistic. “I think missionaries who work in predominantly Muslim countries know when they go that there is risk involved. So, I don’t think it’s necessarily dissuading them from doing their work, I think they’re just keeping their eyes open more and being more aware of what’s going on around them.”
