Next, recent political upheavals in Latin America have affected a hoped-for emphasis on children’s needs. Latin America Mission’s Ken MacHarg reports. “Evangelical church leaders were looking forward to the recent Ibero-American summit’s emphasis on children-at-risk, but an alleged threat against the life of Cuban president Fidel Castro and the resignation of Peru’s Alberto Fujimori overshadowed the talks in Panama. Nevertheless, evangelical leader Alfredo Mora told the leaders that the church has been doing an enormous amount of work for children at risk. He said it is evident that the evangelical church in Latin America is recognized by governments for the good work they are doing with children. This opens the door for the church to take more responsibility in meeting the challenges that face children. For Mission Network News, I’m Ken MacHarg.”
