(USA)–An organization promoting Bible reading is hoping Americans make it a top priority next year. Bible Pathway Ministries in conjunction with the International Bible Reading Association is asking President Bush to declare 2002 as the Year of Bible Reading in America. Bible Reading Associations Jerry Wiles. “We see a real need for a revival of Bible reading and addressing the issue of Biblical illiteracy – getting people to read through the Bible. One of the things we want to do is refocus the average person in the pew to be Biblically literate.” According to Wiles, many Christians have never read the Bible from cover to cover. He says as people do that, evangelism will flourish. “That really is the bottom line is to bring people to Christ and to equip people to be a part of the harvest. We’ve had basically three spiritual awakenings or national revivals in America, but it’s been over 100 years since we’ve really had a national revival that’s changed the culture and structures of society.” Wiles hopes this effort will do just that.
