(International)–Meanwhile, an evangelical organization is using environmental issues to bring people to Christ. Floresta is an organization that reverses deforestation and poverty by transforming the lives of the rural poor. Floresta’s Executive Director Scott Sabin says their ministry is long term. “It’s through long term relationships that we find that people not only hear the Gospel, but they make a decision for Christ and they begin to follow him. If you spend seven to 10 years working with a person, by the time you’re done they no longer have to ask you why you’re there. They already know you pretty well.” Floresta is working in 75 villages in three countries. However, to be more effective they need 10 people to sponsor a village for 30-dollars a month. “It purchases agricultural training. It provides money for small business loans. It provides money so that pastor can teach and Bible studies can occur. And, it provides the support we need to reach into that community.”
