Story number 4 for 8 Nov 2001

(West Africa)–Elsewhere, while missionaries in some Muslim countries are taking a low profile, others are finding that now is the time for active evangelism. SIM’s Mark Garrett is in Senegal, West Africa. He says the population there is almost 90-percent Muslim, providing an interesting backdrop for their work. “There are lots of open doors to say a word, to seize a moment, and share a word about Christ, or about the Gospel. People will often talk about things that they perceive the Christian faith adheres to, espouses, which are not true.” Garrett says some misconceptions have opened hearts. “There is an incredible amount of bridges, when we’re talking to Muslims here, because of the common threads in Islam and Christianity. The Muslims claim all the same prophets as we claim in Christianity, except that they just add Mohamed on top.” Garrett says increasing numbers of young believers are completing theological training. Please pray for their ministry.
