Super Bowl outreach gearing up in USA

By December 16, 2008

USA (MNN) — With the American professional football season approaching the playoffs, Christians are getting ready for Super Bowl ministry. Bill Adams with Sports Fan Outreach says they're still recruiting people for evangelistic outreach.

"We are anticipating 150 to 200 people who will spend a weekend with us, spending most of that time evangelizing — telling the people who come to Tampa for the Super Bowl about Jesus," says Adams.

Adams says the fellowship that will take place will be amazing, which will also bring with it a drive for evangelism. Adams says the price has come down. "It's $225 for 3 1/2 days starting Thursday, January 29th through Sunday. And, that figure, $225, covers all of your expenses once you get to Tampa — overnight, two meals a day, and transportation when you're there. All of that's taken care of."

Some may think outreach around a sporting event would not be very successful. Adams says, "I personally believe the Super Bowl is just one of those unique events in the history of the nation every year. It just captures people's attention and people come to the city."

He adds, "They are not in their routine. And so they've come to Tampa, and they're looking for interesting people and interesting stories. There's no resistance."

Adams believes today's economy will also help their outreach. "Because of the economy, there will actually be fewer parties. There will be a lot of people, but a less festive environment, actually making it easier for us spiritually to communicate the Gospel."
