Team moves to build local church in Philippines

By October 27, 2008

Philippines (MNN) — The SEND
members
of the Philippines teams gather this week for their annual conference.

The mission of SEND Philippines
is to help build up the church through the local church.  As a result, an increasing number of Filipinos
are going out in missionary service.

Already familiar with Roman
Catholicism and a rich religious history, pagan and animistic beliefs have been
added in areas, which, when combined with traditional spiritism and
superstition, creates an environment where cults flourish.

Church
growth in the late 70's and 80's reveals a vibrant evangelical community today. From those earlier seeds, several
thousand Filipino missionaries now reach out to unreached or under-reached
groups within the Philippines and to countries around the world.

Today's
Filipino evangelical church faces the challenge of discipling and training
their newer members. Spiritual and theological shallowness is a concern as the
previous growth period moves into the next generation.

Pray for spiritual refreshment,
constructive discussion, deepening fellowship, and God's presence and power
during these days together, that the coming year may be especially fruitful in
reaching the unreached with God's message of grace.
