Cyclone Pam hit the small South Pacific archipelago Vanuatu early Saturday morning, destroying the lives and homes of thousands.

BBC reported President Baldwin Lonsdale saying development of recent years had been “wiped out,” and the country would have to rebuild “everything.”

This is one of the worst cyclones the Pacific has seen in recent history. The Associated Press said the strongest winds clocked in at 168 mph, making the devastating storm a Category 5. So far, there have been 24 deaths, and people are expecting more reports will start trickling in.

International Aid Disaster Response reported much of the damage is unknown because most power and communication have been lost to Vanuatu’s string of 65 islands. However, the results reported and photographs taken have proven just how intense the storm was, and how hard and slow the process will be for residents to recover.

President Lonsdale told the Associated Press, “This is a very devastating cyclone in Vanuatu. I term it as a monster, a monster!”

CNN reported the storm flattened homes, ripped trees out of the ground, damaged safe haven buildings like the hospital, schools, and churches.

The thousands who lost their homes are left with nothing to eat or drink, wondering, “Where do we go from here?”

They know they can’t get very far without help.

International Aid is taking the initiative to provide essentials for survivors–food, water, medicine, and other basic needs. But just like the survivors, they can’t do it without help.

Every dollar makes a difference. Every dollar saves a life. Through the provision of medical and health assistance for people who have lost everything, International Aid wants to glorify God’s name. They have seen that though He allows disasters, He brings recovery and blessings.
