International (UW) — unfoldingWord is pleased to announce that it has been asked to join the Every Tribe Every Nation (ETEN) alliance of Bible translation organizations.
Based in Orlando, FL, unfoldingWord is a provider of open-licensed Bible translation resources and training. ETEN is a coalition of 11 organizations whose collective purpose is “partnering to provide God’s Word in everyone’s heart language in a format they can engage with so their lives may be transformed.”
In close cooperation with ETEN’s vision, unfoldingWord’s purpose is to partner with church-planting movements to establish a church in every people group and the Bible in every language. unfoldingWord does that through the Gateway Languages Strategy, which utilizes a core set of open-licensed, easy-to-use Bible translation resources and training in 50 of the world’s most widely-spoken languages.
“We are humbled by this amazing opportunity to be a part of what the Lord is doing through the collective impact of the ETEN alliance,” unfoldingWord President & CEO David Reeves said. “For us, it is yet another indicator of the Lord’s unmerited favor and kindness as we work to empower global church-planting networks to be able to meet their own Bible translation needs.”
To that end, unfoldingWord’s Gateway Language resources empower bilingual people in all 7,000-plus languages on earth to translate the Bible accurately for themselves. With this strategy, unfoldingWord and its ETEN partners can tap the massive energy of the church-planting movements driving church growth around the world.
“By leveraging the equipping power of the Gateway Languages, the global church can collaborate in parallel to produce trustworthy Bible translations in every language as part of their theological formation,” Reeves said. “In addition, they will be able to use those translations to create additional biblical resources. This will result in widespread communication of the gospel with clarity in any language, as well as equipping disciples of Jesus to grow to full maturity in the language that communicates to them best.”
