Water sites in Iraq pave the way for the hope of Christ.

Iraq (MNN)–Iraq’s public works minister, lobbying for congressional approval of aid to her country, said on Wednesday that only half of Iraqis have access to safe drinking water and that up to $8 billion will be needed to ensure everyone has potable water.

Estimates conclude that providing access to safe drinking water to all Iraqis, as well as increasing the proportion of the population with proper sewage systems from the current 3 percent to 30 percent, will cost $7 billion to $8 billion by the end of 2005.

The Southern Baptist International Mission Board is responding to the need with a water tank project in central Iraq. 30 secure sites for the tanks have been located, and most of the bases have been built with concrete tanks attached.

Once the taps are installed, the water tanks can be filled with clean water. Pray that the project will be completed without hindrances, and pray that God would bring glory to Himself in this community.
