World Missionary Press sees new avenues for Gospel witness despite COVID-19

By June 19, 2020

USA (MNN) – COVID-19 may be keeping people indoors, but the Gospel is not bound.

Helen Williams with World Missionary Press says that even in these uncertain times people are reaching out to World Missionary Press for their free Scripture booklets and other Gospel materials. Talking to people in malls or on crowded streets is no longer an option, but people are finding new places to share God’s Word.

Williams says that she recently heard from a lady in New York asking for booklets. “She only wanted 20 in English and 30 in Spanish. But she says, ‘I go and I get free food and I’d like to give some out while I’m standing in line waiting for the free food.’ I think that that that is indicative of the kind of heart that our distributors have and [they’re] open to seeing opportunities and needs. And that’s what we’re seeing. People are finding other ways [to share the Gospel].”

The stories go on and on. Parents contact World Missionary Press looking for literature to send their families or to help them share the Gospel with their young children. People giving away hot meals or groceries are also handing out booklets and New Testaments. Caregivers at nursing homes and extended stay facilities are sharing the Good News with the sick and the isolated.

One man who had requested literature reported back that his team had passed out 10,000 copies of The Way to God Scripture Booklets and 1,000 New Testaments. By God’s grace they had seen 2,520 people come to Christ through their ministry in just 3 weeks.

Handing Out Hope

Even with the new partners, World Missionary Press’ numbers of shipped literature are down. Many people who frequently order large quantities of literature, just haven’t been able to continue ministry as normal. However, the consistency of people still giving out Gospel words of hope is encouraging.

Williams says, “I think that a lot of people, believers particularly, they want to do something, but they’re not sure what to do, how to help. And this is one way that that they can.”

In times that seem hopeless, God’s Word offers everlasting hope, joy and peace. This was particularly evident in the story of one distributor who called World Missionary Press in March concerned about a large quantity of booklets he had ordered.

The distributor explained that the need was urgent because, “God’s Word is being eaten up by those living in darkness and fear.” Would World Missionary Press be able to provide him with the material?

Just in time, the governor of Indiana (where World Missionary Press is located) allowed Religious Entities to continue to operate. The booklets were sent out. God did not allow His work to slow down.

Join the Work

The times are uncertain but God’s Word is not. World Missionary Press asks for prayers that God would use these booklets to offer hope to many during COVID-19. Please also pray that shipments would be processed smoothly so that distributors, national coordinators, and individuals would continue to have these helpful Gospel-sharing tools.
