Elections in Portugal have Christians hoping for a new government favorable to religious freedom issues.

Portugal (MNN) — Portugal’s elections are next week, and the instability in the past several months has Greater Europe Mission asking Christians to pray.

In their 30+ years of working to bring the truth of the Gospel to Portugal, GEM has started churches, established a Bible Institute, and offers internship and short-term missions opportunities.

Portugal gained religious and political freedom in 1975, and there has been a steady growth of Evangelicals since. But ancient heart-bondages to pagan and occultic practices remain.

GEM hopes that the elections will bring about a good government and a new prime minister who will look favorably on religious freedom issues. Pray for spiritual revival in Portugal and throughout Europe, and pray that many more mission-minded people will become involved in reaching Europe with the Gospel.
