Pull a woman out of poverty for only $30

By February 2, 2010

India (MNN) — To be a widow in India is typically to be poor and destitute. Low caste widows are at particularly high risk for poverty and are often cast out to the streets to fend for themselves.

India Partners has taken note of the high number of widows in need and has decided to do something about it. Their Web site has a listing of the profiles for 30 widows who are in need of serious assistance. The ministry hopes to have all 30 women sponsored as soon as possible.

The stories of these women vary. One woman, Happy, who is now being sponsored, did not lose her husband; she was simply unlucky enough to be struck with leprosy. Her husband and family disowned her. But one of India Partners' partners, Living Sacrifice Ministries, took her in. Happy has since been healed of her disease and is serving Dalit children.

Other stories include that of Jyothi, a believer who struggles to send her children to school now that her husband has passed. Another woman, Siromani, lost her husband and has trouble working due to an injured hand. The stories of several other woman can be found on the India Partners Web site.

For only $30 a month, you can sponsor one of these women. Your sponsorship will provide food, clothing, medical care, shelter, vocational training (when appropriate), and the love of Jesus Christ. To sponsor and pray for one of these widows, visit www.indiapartners.org.
