USA (MNN)–Buckner Orphan Care International just celebrated a milestone.

Joined by the Texas Rangers Baseball Club, and eight Russian children, they celebrated collecting one million pairs of shoes for orphans around the world.

On June 12, Rangers’ President Mike Cramer presented Buckner Vice President Mike Douris with a pair of athletic sneakers as the one millionth pair of shoes given through the Shoes for Orphan Souls campaign.

“It’s exciting to reach this milestone,” Douris said. “Not just because of the significance of the one million mark, but because every pair of shoes represents a child who has received a very special gift.”

Campaign coordinator Tiffany Taylor said the drive “meets a desperate need for children living in orphanages” overseas.

Through the program, teams have been able to share the love of Christ with orphans in more than two dozen countries. It’s a growing need, and a growing ministry. Shoes for Orphan Souls has sent shoes and socks to Afghanistan, Belarus, Belize, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guyana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Latvia, Mexico, Moldova, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Uganda, the United States, Ukraine and Zambia.
