Christians needed to deliver shoes to China and Guatemala

China/Guatemala (MNN) — New shoes are allowing Christians into orphanages, but the lack of volunteers may prevent that outreach from being as effective as it could be. Buckner Orphan Care International needs volunteers to accompany them to two countries to distribute shoes to orphanages, while also holding vacation Bible schools in both countries.

Buckner’s Tiffany Taylor says, “Americans are going over with the shoes and presenting the Gospel to the children. And, it’s just so important for the Lord to call up people to come with us.”

Last year Buckner organized three trips, but this year they’re organizing seven. Taylor tells all but two of the trips are full — China and Guatemala which take place in October and December respectively. She says you can make an eternal difference. “On a shoes for orphan souls mission trip, it’s a short term mission trip where volunteers are raising their support to go, and when they get over there every day we’re going to another orphanage where we are presenting a small mini vbs that ties in to the shoe drive.”

According to Taylor, the Chinese are pretty restrictive. “Most people are not ever, even adoptive parents don’t even get into the orphanages to see what it’s like for the children. We’ve built wonderful relationships in a Muslim region of China.

They only have two or three more spots for the China trip, and up to 20 people needed for the trip to Guatemala. “The children are waiting. They’re expecting and counting on these teams coming to bring them shoes, and we just don’t want to let them down,” says Taylor.
