Compassion child development centers affected by natural disaster

By June 4, 2010

Guatemala (MNN) — Tropical Storm Agatha tore through Central America last week leaving many countries in ruins. Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador have all suffered a great deal of loss as a result of the violent storm.

Guatemala has perhaps experienced the most loss. Between an erupting volcano and a severe storm, over 120 people have died in the country.

The storm, of course, did not pass by Christian ministries. Compassion International posted an advisory this week stating that 19 Compassion-assisted child development centers have been affected. For a full list of the affected centers, click here.

Little is known about the condition of the centers so far. Compassion Guatemala will provide information as they can, but right now damages are still being assessed. If you sponsor a child in Guatemala, please pray for him or her. Compassion will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected by the storm.

In the midst of so many natural disasters, prayer is needed more than anything. Pray for the safety of the families and children who have suffered at the hands of this storm. Pray also that local churches would have the resources to respond. Pray finally that the Gospel would move forward with even greater vigor as people work through the difficult questions that accompany tragedy.
