Economy hits another child sponsorship program

By July 19, 2012

International (MNN) — The poor global economy is hitting yet another ministry. This time it's a child sponsorship program.

AMG International reports, "We are so grateful for sponsors who partner with us to make a difference in the lives of boys and girls around the world. That monthly contribution has an impact that lasts for eternity."

While AMG seeks to stretch each dollar it receives as far as possible, costs to feed and provide for the children in their care are increasing. Exchange rates have also had an impact.

In recent years, the cost of living has gone up all over the world: in 2011, the inflation rate went up 9.3% in Haiti and 10.7% in Bangladesh. One metric ton of rice now costs $600, and the price for corn (maize) in Uganda has increased by more than 100%.

AMG reports, "For these reasons, we have made the difficult, yet necessary, decision to raise the cost of sponsorships (which have been at their present level since January of 2009) to provide the level of ongoing care that is needed for our sponsored children."

Because of these issues, child sponsorship will increase to $32 a month on August 1. This will allow AMG to provide what's needed for the children and to administer this program effectively.

Children under the care of AMG receive a hot, nutritious meal and a snack each day. The health condition of each child is monitored carefully, and vitamins are given to provide additional nutrients. Children are provided educational opportunities and are tutored if necessary. Childcare center staff members encourage children to take advantage of every opportunity they have to learn new skills. Children are given new articles of clothing and shoes once or twice a year. Each child is also given a clear presentation of the Gospel with the hope that they will become a Christian and reach his or her world for Christ.

It is through your participation in AMG's Child Sponsorship Program that we can touch the lives of thousands of children around the world. You can make an eternal difference in a child's life by sponsoring a child today.
