Election plans move forward in Türkiye

By March 2, 2023

Türkiye (MNN) — Türkiye still plans to hold elections in May despite last month’s devastating earthquakes.

Polls were initially slated for June 18, but changing the elections allows current Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to run for another term. More about that here.

Erdogan’s promise to rebuild within a year in the earthquake zone may have won favor, but it’s easier said than done. Nearly two million people live in tents and temporary shelters, while another two million have left the area.

AMG International has been on the ground from the beginning. “AMG has a network there of 40 churches and over 150 volunteers. That number is growing as our network [sends] people from all over the country,” AMG’s Brian Dennett says.

AMG’s church partners work in several tent communities. “AMG has been purchasing food, water, and blankets. We have several mobile feeding units distributing hot meals,” Dennett says.

By demonstrating the love of Christ in action, believers get to share their faith. “Working with the church [allows us] to show the love of Christ,” Dennett says.

“Many wonder why these people (volunteers) are so happy serving them and helping them.”

AMG needs your help to keep the work going. “We are purchasing additional mobile feeding units to feed even more people,” Dennett says.

Pray earthquake survivors will experience the Lord’s comfort during this time of indescribable hardship. Pray for strength, perseverance, and Gospel opportunity for believers helping earthquake survivors.
