Evangelism grows in the Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic (MNN)–Over the last 10 to 15 years, evangelical churches have grown at an amazing rate in the Dominican Republic.

The problem with this sudden growth is that most pastors don’t have formal theological or seminary training. So there’s a serious need for discipleship. And most pastors aren’t teaching the Word of God. So there’s a great need for Walk Thru the Bible materials and resources.

At the launch last November, the mayor of Santo Domingo (also known as the King of Merengue) gave the key to Terry Sparks, Vice President for Walk Thru The Bible International.

It was there the team shared the vision of Walk Thru the Bible International. Before leaving, they taught the Prayer of Jabez to more than 1,000 people and trained more than 250 teachers, schooling them on how to teach through live seminars and the Prayer of Jabez. How to facilitate A Biblical Portrait of Marriage and Experiencing Spiritual Breakthroughs.

They also taught church leaders how to disciple, with empowerment courses like The Vision of the Leader and The Seven Laws of the Learner.

Those teachers have since fanned out across the island to spread the word of God, conduct live seminars, share videos, and make disciples in Santo Domingo, Santiago de Los Caballeros, La Romana and San Pedro de Macoris.

There are a numerous challenges to overcome. WTTB is trying to establish a budget that will allow an infrastructure of area managers to recruit, train and equip teachers. Much of the material-including the video curricula-will need to be translated into Spanish.
