Good News for the Cape of Good Hope

South Africa (MNN) – Consider the number of Bibles in your home. Is it more than one? More than five? What about the number of Christian books you have shelved?

Jason Woolford with Mission Cry says most American Christians have a surplus of Christian resources. If you’re looking to downsize during spring cleaning, here’s an opportunity for you: the team at Mission Cry accepts donations of Bibles and Christian reading materials in good condition.

“They get palletized, boxed, sorted; and then we put them on sea containers and send them out to our distribution points around the world,” he says.

South Africa receives four such containers each year, containing Bibles, Christian books, and seminary materials. On the most recent shipment to Cape Town, Mission Cry’s Jason Woolford shares the story of a gang member whose mother came across a Bible with specific commentary intended for prisoners.

“She told this young man that it came from American Christians, and it came just for him.”

He was skeptical of the Bible, asking his mother how much it cost. She told him it was given as a gift.

“He started to cry because he said it was the first time that a stranger had done anything for him, and now he’s reading this Bible,” Woolford says.

This account stands among other testimonies of God’s Word not returning void. Even those on the periphery of this effort, like a Muslim man who delivers the shipments, have been affected by the work. After declining an offer of a Bible on the first container, this man accepted one from the second shipment and said he would read it.

Woolford says it’s especially encouraging to see God’s Word going out in dangerous places.

“The Word of God is going to change things there,” he says.

From the distribution post in South Africa, Mission Cry has been able to distribute Bibles into Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, and other nearby nations.

Please pray for safety of the team and for changed hearts of those who receive Bibles. Woolford is asking people to pray or give according to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

“As they do, in both of those areas, I pray a blessing back on them: 30, 60, and 100-fold in the spiritual, physical, and financial areas of their life,” he says.
