Making a difference among the poor in the name of Christ

By January 16, 2008

USA (MNN) — More than 13 million children in America live
in poverty, daily suffering from poor living conditions.

CityTeam Ministries' Child Sponsorship program provides help
to children and their families in crisis situations. Families are barely able
to pay the rent, often hungry and uncertain where their next meal will come
from. Children suffer the cruel effects
of poverty more than anyone else as their social and physical development can
be damaged in these crucial first years of life.

When someone steps forward and begins to sponsor a child
through the CTM program, worlds can change. A Child Sponsor, through team members, tells
children and their parents the story of God's love and provides them with a
support system they can count on. Families receive necessary food, clothing,
recovery programs, medical assistance and other essential care.

Biblical discipleship, encouragement and counseling are part
of the outreach. Teams also work to
provide homework assistance, tutoring and computer education, drug prevention
and abstinence trainings (provided in San Jose only).

As people act as the hands and feet of Christ through the
mentoring programs, they create opportunities for both outreach and lasting change. Click here if you want to get involved.
