Men join women in Iranian protests

By October 14, 2022

Iran (MNN) — Over 200 Iranian people, mostly women, have been murdered since nationwide protests broke out against the regime on September 17. Thousands have been arrested.

Women in Iran are familiar with this kind of violence. But these protests are different, says Joe Willy with SAT-7 USA, because this time, Iranian men are standing up as well. “That shows another cultural shift. Of course, it’s not all men. But some are saying, ‘We as men also want and value rights for women in this country.’”

“I think that is an important shift. And as Christians, we certainly see the value in all men, women, girls, and boys.”

Willey says these are important Christian teachings and something that is bringing real change to Iran. “SAT-7 as a broadcaster in the Middle East and North Africa is, in some of these countries like Iran, going against the grain.”

SAT-7 content

In 2021, SAT-7 had 47,000 discussions with Iranians over social media channels. Now, authorities have throttled the internet to slow down protests. But that doesn’t affect satellite tv.

Willey talks about a program called Sanctuary of the Heart. “On September 29, there was a program that was presented not only on Instagram Live but also on satellite broadcasting. This program is addressing the fact that women are made in the image of God. They have intrinsic value.”

How to pray

Ask God to continue changing Iranian power structures.

Pray also that the protestors would be safe from violence instigated by the authorities. Willey says, “Just pray that there would be freedom for men or women to have a choice.”
