Mission team takes to their heels to raise funds for Romania.

Romania (MNN) — Sammy Tippit Ministries' partner Ambassadors for Christ is racing to the finish. Actually, AFC founder Dave Tippit says they just held a fundraising race to help with expenses for a short-term mission team headed to Romania this summer.

Their ministry will be partnering with students from Emmanuel University's discipleship ministry. "They're doing some discipleship ministry for one of their college classes there, and then we're also going to work with REM, our Romanian Evangelical Medical Mission, and help them out with various needs that they have."

The U.S. team will be serving by hosting a conference for many of Romania's young people.  They will incorporate much of the AFC curriculum that was used here in the United States to teach these young people of Romania.

Tippit says each year they take some form of humanitarian aid with them. "We do these things called 'Packets of Love,' and we bring over for each orphan a reminder that God cares about them." This is the third annual overseas trips but the first to Romania in connection with an AFC 5k race.

This year the team brought in $2500 for the July trip. With the amount raised, they can, "bring over a packet full of small games, toys, a few educational items that they need, and toiletries. And we combine it with the students that we're discipling. They'll be the distribution outlet."  These items in the past have included a bouncy ball, Bible coloring book, pack of crayons, notebook and pencil, gum, all types of candy, and a jump rope.

That drives their message home to the kids. The team not only shares the story of Jesus and how much He loves them, but it also allows the team to give the children a physical taste of God's love.  If you want to help, click here.
