Philippines (MNN) — Super Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines almost one month ago. Since those very first days, native Filipino ministries have been working overtime to deliver food, water, supplies, and medical aid to those suffering from the storm.
Advancing Native Missions reports that this is giving them an advantage. Their local knowledge and their relationships with pastors and churches in the region have made them especially effective among the many organizations contributing to relief and recovery efforts. Their work has been a living expression of the love of Christ in trying times, and many have heard and received the Gospel as a result of these ministries’ presence.
Asian Youth and Children’s Ministries, one of Advancing Native Missions’ partners in the Philippines, has been very active in the past month, delivering food, supplies, and the Gospel to those suffering from the typhoon.

Roger and Sylvia Elosendo, ANM partners serving the neglected Ati people in the Philippines, visited the village of Pangurayan in Iloilo. Missionaries like the Elosendos are providing essential aid to many who are suffering in remote settings.
ANM partners Danny and Cita Montes, leaders of Living Rock Ministries, visited the island of Samar, Philippines, recently to distribute supplies. They have been coordinating with local churches to get supplies to those who have not yet been helped by the government or relief organizations.
Workers like Danny and Cita, whose relationships with local pastors, have made them especially effective in the weeks after the typhoon. “We went to Marabut, a coastal town in Samar that was devastated by the typhoon. Our host was Pastor Fernan Malate, and we conducted a relief work in his church. His church was totally destroyed by the typhoon. Please help pray for Pastor Fernan and his congregation. Fifty of his members were the beneficiaries of our relief. We want to help the community, but the funds are not enough.”
